Happily, my Mom is visiting for Mother’s Day and a good bit beyond. Having a guest bedroom and plenty of space makes it very do-able.
As a result, I get some home cooking, of course.
Tonight was my Mom’s famous sweet-and-sour meatballs, with mashed potatoes. Add in a big salad, bread, and Jenna’s strawberry shortcake, and there were five very stuffed people.
That’s some good eating.

One of the nice things about being at work silly early (well, silly early to me anyway) is that I can slip out to a nearby coffee shop and treat myself to a slow start if needed. Needless to say, I need it this morning. Under the weather and a bit sleep deprived, I slipped over to Tully’s for a long rest in a comfy chair and a cup of coffee.
Ok, I also reviewed a complex contract, but it was a softer start than shivering and sniffling in my office. To which I must now return regardless …

I spent the weekend working on getting the house cleaned up and sorted. Well, I mean, just because I got everything moved here didn’t mean it all got put away properly. I got some rooms done, but the real win was discovering Signal and solved a big piece of my home stereo system.
I put in a new wireless network last weekend - part of that was wiring the living stereo (downstairs) to stream from my home server (which is not downstairs). It’s been working outstandingly … but, if I want to change the music, it required leaving said living room.
Until now. Signal provides access to my iTunes libraries from my iPhone, including switching speaker locations.
I’m fairly impressed.

It’s been a lot of head’s down, working at both home and office the past few weeks. For the house, most of it leads to this weekend - while I’ve been living in my house for about a month now, most of my stuff has not.
That’ll get corrected in about 36 hours. Unlike the last time, the real work of the move will be done by a professional moving crew. It’s an early morning move (gee, why does that sound familar), and by mid-afternoon I expect it to be done.
Update: the move went very, very well. Unlike the prior year, the library and stuff was all boxed up and ready to go. Lotta boxes.
I used the Delancey Street Foundation, and they did excellent work. They sent out five guys in a twenty-foot truck, and about 1 pm or so, everything was moved into the house. On time, under budget.

E. Gary Gygax passed away this morning. Gary was the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, and father of the role-playing game hobby / industry.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the legions of fans and gamers.
Rest in peace, Gary. Thank you for all the memories and tales still to be told.
“Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold.”
~ J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit
“I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else.”
