Reading the news a few days ago, I was treated to an article in the SF Gate on my camping trip to Kings Canyon. It’s a short enough read with a few photos to match, as one might expect. As you read it, just pretend I’m saying “Been there, done that” behind you. ;) Yea, we hit pretty much every single location in Kings Canyon that they mention (we saw the hotels, but didn’t stay there).

All joking aside, I agree with the article: Kings Canyon makes for a great trip.

Blah. The week finished up well enough on a reasonable up-beat. Plenty of things accomplished for my employer, and I was off to a decent Friday night catching up with an old colleague over beers. So, you can imagine my disappointment when I woke up this morning (weekend being me time) to find that I was feeling under the weather. Realizing it, I had some tea and whatnot, and promptly went back to bed to wake up at 2:30.

Things have been blah from there on out. Luckily, I have no work that needs to be done over the weekend, and pretty much nothing planned as well, although I had hoped to get down to Endgame tomorrow for a game or two of Rezolution or Urban War. We’ll see about that.

In the meantime, I’ve stocked up on gatorade, day- and nightquil, and other sickness related items. So far, it just seems to be aches and pains, fatigue and such. So, I’ll be settling in to an early evening, some DVDs of The Shield and hopefully a deep, restful sleep.

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were short a key player for last night’s Warhammer campaign (it’s the third part of a three part mystery – I’m not about to run it for less than a full cast). So, after a long day a work, I gathered with the rest of the gang at the Uniplex, had some pizza and homebrew, and watched “King Arthur“, from 2004.

While I’m not died in the wool Arthurian academic, I’ve been reading about King Arthur and his Knights since, we, well about 6th grade if memory serves me. I had a copy of the Howard Pyle book (classic).

The movie was enjoyable (somewhere in decently done Grade-B territory), and told the tale of King Arthur as he might have been in the Dark Ages – a Roman commander in Briton. No plate mail. No lances. No chivarly. … and served by a group of pagan knights. All-in-all a clever reimagining of the classic tale.

As a side note, I didn’t place Clive Owen (the lead as Arthur) as the same Clive Owen who starred in “The Hire” series of film shorts from BMW Films until after the movie (when we tapped IMBD). No wonder I was subconsciously waiting for him to mow down the Saxons with a BMW…

My thoughts and prayers go out to my friends and all those caught in the terrible events that unfolded this morning in London. We stand with you today, as you stood with us on 9/11.

Once again, my local coffeehouse is closing down for renovation: Zocalo’s will be closed for the next 8 or so weeks (re-opening in the same spot). The owner, Tim Holmes, just handed me a “Renovation Survival Manual” – full color tri-fold explaining what’s going on, feedback form, where to get coffee while they’re closed, thank you’s, etc. They’ll still be providing coffee beans while the retail front is closed (via the web and other shops).

Zocalo, by the way, comes up in the credits for BBEdit. I was watching them scroll by a few days ago. and sure enough, there they are, getting thanking for providing Bare Bones developers with caffeine.

Mmm … sweet, sweet caffeine … ;)

So, darn it, I’ll be wandering around looking for more wi-fi spots on the weekends until Zocalo reopens. I feel like such a digital gypsy …

In the meantime, I’m belting out some writing at Zocalo while it’s still open (and I’m still awake – sheeesh, not even 11 in the morning, and I’m done with my second cup of coffee and plenty of words. Yes, I said coffee).
