The EndGame dice cake that was brought to the Hanrahan’s Halloween potluck was the awesome …

With a bit of luck and everyone’s prayers, some very talented surgeons, and my Dad’s stubborness (there’s no doubt where my stubborn streak comes from), my Dad’s surgery was very successful. The docs are very pleased with how it went.
Big Moe is resting comfortably (or at least as comfortably as one can rest after major surgery on one’s spine, including pins, screws, plates, etc.). And let’s hear it for morphine. He is now on the road to recovery. In turn, I am on the road to sleep …
Thanks to everyone for their calls, emails, pages, texts, and comments of support. My family and I very much appreciate all the well-wishes and prayers.
Unfortunately, my Dad (“Big Moe”) is in the hospital with a ruptured / fractured L1. The injury is pressing on his spine, preventing him from walking and causing extreme pain and leg spasms. The surgery is not elective, but is very risky.
After a few challenges, the surgery is now scheduled for tomorrow (Monday, 10/15) afternoon (eastern time). I’m looking forward to a successful surgery and Big Moe walking about soon enough.
With a few late evening hours to burn last night, I tuned in the Sci-Fi channel’s made for TV movies “The Wraiths of Roanoke” and “Grendel”. Uggh.
The movies had heavy fog (machines), overworked and unspectacular cgi effects in common -in addition to being, uhhh, not good.
Wraiths flatly told a tales of Viking wraiths haunting the Roanoke island. It wasn’t good, but was exceeded in it’s badness by Grendel.
In the first 7 minutes of Grendel, Beowulf is given the King’s new weapon with which to fight the monster – an XXL-sized crossbow with targeting scope that shoots explosive arrows. You may have missed that in your ancient history classes.
Definitely not Sci-Fi’s best work. The short glimpses of BSG “Razor” were the best part.
