At this point, 2007 is well in the rear view mirror. Here’s hoping everyone has a festive, safe NYE and that 2008 is the best yet. Or better … I’d take better.

Truth be told, I hardly feel very merry at all this season. Unsurprisingly so. Still, onward and upward. And, if things have been a bit difficult and depressing for me lately, there’s at least been some noteworthy meals. Given my rampant foodie-ish, I thought I would share:
* Jacobs (Boynton Beach, FL): I went with my Mom and one of her friends, and I had a frickin’ fantastic hot corned beef sandwich on rye. Fantastic! The best corned beef – no, the best deli sandwich I’ve had in years. Or at least since I was last in Florida with my parents. That sandwich carried me through my last day in Florida, the flight home, and a good bit beyond. Not that I didn’t get hungry anyways.
* Ching Hua (Alameda, CA): Got taken out here upon my arrival back in the Bay. Some absolutely awesome hot and sour soup, along with amazing cherry pork and spicy dry-fried chicken, all washed down with some homemade lemonade. Thanks, Bennett!
* Boulevard (San Francisco, CA): Ate here for the first time, courtesy of my boss. A fantastic meal – I tried the house made bacon (for Q!) and the very impressive, almost too much to eat filet mignon. Between the food, some scotch and wine, I had to pass on dessert. Sadly.
* B (Oakland, CA): This past Sunday’s brunch was rockin’. B’s struggled a bit with their brunch service the past month or two, but this past Sunday … back into flawless mode. The waiter commented that it must be the cool table on account of our wearing sunglasses indoors. I think it more to do with the famous line: “when you’re cool, the sun shines on you 24 hours a day”. Or, more likely, my tired eyes.
* Yoshi’s (Oakland, CA): Yoshi’s this past weekend for some sushi, teriyaki … and a nearly two hour long serving of the blues, as performed by none other than the legendary, world-famous Taj Mahal. The music far outclassed the food, which wasn’t bad either. It was a birthday celebration, and the recipient was … most pleased (and, no, it wasn’t my birthday).
* Z Cafe and Bar (Oakland, CA): They’ve got a pretty Sunday good brunch menu. The steak and eggs were bitchin’, and the eggs benedict were tasty too. Not “B” tasty, but still …
Don’t let any of this – especially the brunches – make you think I’m not on the oatmeal breakfast thing anymore. The gruel diet continues, if a bit interrupted from time to time.
