As it turns out, there’s nothing quite like having the dry heaves at 5 am on a Tuesday morning to convince me that, no, I won’t be able to make it into the office that day.

I managed to get whacked with some nasty chest cold / flu / plague thing, not surprising, I suppose, given stress and recent events. I came down with it Sunday – and immediately began taking meds and herbs as appropriate. I was completely out of commission for Monday and Tuesday, worked from home on Wed, and managed about 75% of a day in the office today. I’m feeling significantly better overall, but … bleeeech.

To add insult to injury, some jackass(es) stole the rear license plate off my girlfriend’s car while it was parked in the guest lot. WTF? I mean really, WTF? And, btw, Oakland PD requires that one file the report in person at the Station on the weekends. Which isn’t an issue … unless it’s raining and you’re sick … and, say, you had called them 9 hours earlier at which point they told you they would send an officer to your place, but after 7 hours they called to say fill out a report via internet – but after that, called back to tell you yes, you have to go down to the station. Thanks – it’s not like I wouldn’t have preferred driving down to the Station at 1 pm to file a report instead of waiting for 7+ hours for an officer who never shows.

Mind you, I don’t mind that Oakland PD doesn’t have the manpower to handle little items like that. No problem. Just tell me to come down to the Station instead of sending me on a 1/2 day waste.

Despite all of that, I managed to get into contract on a home (hey, whoa … non-sequitur!).

Yes, I’m buying a house. :)

They (or at least San Francisco) have decided to cut down on people parking illegally in the bus lanes by installing cameras on muni buses.

Fantastic idea.

However, I’m really wondering where they are going to put the cameras to catch some of the atrocious muni driver behavior. I’ve seen far more examples of that than illegal parking, and frankly, a deranged muni driver is far more dangerous.

After all, it’s not like I’ve been nearly run down by muni buses frequently, repeatedly running red lights, endangering people walking in the crosswalk (with a walk signal) or seen muni drivers park halfway in an intersection making people walk around – into traffic – in order to cross the streets.

Oh wait. Yes I have. Frequently.

But no, let’s not talk about that. Back to those frickin’ illegal parkers, right? ‘Cause muni … she’s so f’ing perfect.

Wow – now today was what we call “wild and woolly”. The Bay Area was positively slammed with crazy high volumes of rain, winds up to 70 mph, and associated goodness.

The morning commute was a bit white knuckle, and I was pretty soaked by the time I got to the office. Speaking of offices, mine sounds just lovely on the 19th floor (out of 23) as the wind whipped the rain into the glass. At least I wasn’t really on the road for much of the day. They closed the Richmond bridge (trucks being flipped by the wind).

Things have settled down for the evening. Unless you’re one of the hundreds of thousands without power as a result of the storm (in which case, I hope PG&E has your power restored asap).
